PK Newsletter - January 2024 ❄️

January 14, 2024

Hello friends!

With the new year comes some new updates on how this newsletter is run. My old method of BCC'ing everyone was getting too unwieldy, so I decided to bite the bullet and start using a "professional" email newsletter service (the one I chose is called Buttondown). I also have a new email address that's connected to the domain of my website: paloma@palomakop.tv. Hopefully everything should work the same from your end! If this email reached your inbox successfully, it would be really nice if you could drop a quick reply that you received it; then I'll know they didn't all go straight into spam or something :)

I'm still in Upstate New York, and it's pretty cold and snowy here right now. I caught a case of covid shortly after New Year's, but luckily it was pretty mild. Other than that, I'm just enjoying having a proper workspace again, for both my computer work and audiovisual experiments!

A lot has been brewing since my last update in November... Here are some things I have coming up:

Presentation at 'Sound'

This Friday, I'll be one of two presenters at a monthly event called Sound, in Delhi, NY. The venue is Luck Dragon, a craft supply store and community space. Hopefully I will meet some new local artists and experimental musicians there! More info at https://luckdragon.space/

Two Online Classes

Coming up in February/March/April, I'll be teaching two online workshops through Polyphase Portal! They are each a series of 4 weekly sessions, intended for realtime virtual participation.

Making Fun, Simple Websites with Handwritten HTML/CSS - February 13-March 5

An introductory course on working directly with HTML and CSS code. So simple, so beautiful, so fun — as the internet should be. Join us and build your own page on the world wide web!

Intro to Video Feedback with Cameras - March 12-April 2

This class will be a bit of an experiment — similar to our in-person workshops where we work with camera feedback, but taking place all online. All participants will need to have their own video equipment setups (minimum: 1 video camera with live composite output, and 1 video monitor/screen with composite input).

A track of mine was included in Elmet Brae, a lovely ambient compilation by members and friends of the Merveilles.town online community. More info here.

I wrote a Year in Review post on my website for the first time.

I worked on websites and commissions for Moon Ark Studio! I still have some slots open for more projects in the near future; get in touch if you need a website, video, graphic, or some other type of creative or technological assistance!

I got to draw some nice machines for a design project for Andrei:

I redesigned my Now Page, and made some little hand-drawn icons for it. This is a page where I can share what I'm up to and some currently relevant links, updated weekly-ish.

I made some zines over the holidays to give out to friends, and it was very fun. I'm thinking of starting a subscription thing through Patreon where you can sign up to receive a new print or zine or sticker every month or every 2 months. If this is something you'd be interested in, let me know, that will help me decide to go ahead with it!

I'll be on a meditation retreat from February 2-9 in rural Massachusetts, and will be unreachable during that time. I'm looking forward to taking some quiet time/space. Other than that, between upcoming classes, freelance projects, art-making, and house-sitting duties, I seem to have my work cut out for me. I am wishing you a good 2024 and hope that you are staying cozy if it's cold where you are (or staying cool if it's hot)!

Until next time, be well.

Best,
Paloma Kop
