Experiments in Public, 2018
Experiments in Public is a series of audiovisual pieces, each created in one day. I originally challenged myself to create a new one daily for an entire month, but I quickly found this to be unfeasable. Still, the project motivated me to create a lot of work in a short amount of time.
Experimenting in Public is an ethos that encourages publishing things quickly, regardless of their state of completion or the personal feelings of their creator. Deliberately choosing to experiment in public can help an artist overcome tendencies toward working in secrecy, publishing only work that meets a subjective, arbitrary measure of quality, overanalysis, and general creative paralysis. A culture where people openly share sketches and scraps of ideas as they develop is much more fun and dynamic than one where everything is carefully polished and curated.
More details on the making of each piece can be found in my MFA Thesis Book, on pages 20-32.
